School Six: Thanksgiving

Hi Guys!

Thanks for your great participation in class yesterday and today. Here are some extra things about Thanksgiving.

My favorite, favorite Thanksgiving movie is A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving. The link should go to the full version on YouTube.

For a basic overview of Thanksgiving, check out National Geographic's Thanksgiving page. It's for kids, but it's a good outline of the holiday.

Also, every Thanksgiving, in New York City, the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade occurs. If you search YouTube for the parade, you'll find a lot of videos showing the parade from years past.

My favorite food on Thanksfgiving in pumpkin pie. Here is a recipe: Spiced Pumpkin Phyllo Pie.

Here is a kind of long article about Black Friday: "What is Black Friday?" Some of you asked about prices on Black Friday. Here is an article about it from MSN "Black Friday 2012: Top 10 Deals."

And to leave you with a funny video: Here is the "Top 10 Thanksgiving Fails."

Translators: Some New York Related Links

Hi guys!

Thanks for the good participation on Tuesday. Click HERE for my playlist with more New York-themed music videos. Some are old songs; some are new. All are pretty sweet.

A cool site is Humans of New York. I also like New York Daily Photo. It is a blog written by a New York resident. For those interested in New York fashion, nothing beats The Man Repeller.

Last thing: here is a video 24 Hours in... New York City. It was a bit too long to show during class, but you might like it.

That's it. If you have any cool links, feel free to share.

Schoolhouse Rock

In the first-year translation course on Tuesday, we talked about politics. This is the "I'm Just a Bill" video we showed.

Other Schoolhouse Rock videos that might be of interest: 3 Branches of Government and The Electoral College.

What? Another blog?

Hi everyone!

This is a blog especially geared as a supplement to the various lessons I teach each week. Basically, I always find myself wanting to share resources and other cool/interesting/fun things with my students, but I never have the time to fit it all into the lesson itself.

Another ETA gave me the idea to start a blog dedicated to all of that miscellaneous stuff. So I am.

Hopefully my lovely students find it useful!
